How to Look 10 Years Younger in 9 Simple Steps

Who wouldn’t like to look 10 years younger than their actual age? Most of us do, right?

Having a glowing skin, no dark circles under the eyes, no or minimizing the wobbly bits, having adequate weight and mainly feeling great with a lot of energy!

We are bombarded by TV commercials and newspapers ads to take the next magic sensation or bullet.

I came across this article in the Times about a doctor who noticed she was getting older rather too quickly. She chose to examine her DNA.

Dr. Sara Gottfried is one of the top in her field. She is educated at Harvard and the Massachsetts Institute of Technology, she published two books on healthy living in the New York Times.

How well are you aging?

For her age of 44 she looks pretty stunning. For ever she’s been a big advocate of healthy food and exercising regularly.

Then, one day, out of vanity she took a test to find out how well she was aging.

To her surprised she got horrified! The results were 64. Gosh 20 years more to her actual age!

So what happened there? She was doing what is right to do! This doesn’t make sense right?

What is the truth?

So the truth is: just simple diet and exercise is not enough!

She looked at the DNA and DNA based medical treatment.

She managed to reverse her aging by personalizing her DNA treatment. All researched in the Californian medical centre.

Her book Younger gives you advice which to us may seem too futuristic and surreal but for our grandchildren would be a most definite norm.

The Telomere Test

One important thing to remember is that we all have the weakest point for something and the way to find out is to have a telomere test.

You can have it done privately but not many practices do it.

If you are in a panic as you don’t know where to have it done.

I assure you that telomeres are not 100 % exact, it’s only an indication where you might be in relation to your health span.

 Self Test

The thing is, if you are not feeling great and you have aches and pains and you truthfully examine the past few months of your lifestyle – your diet, hydration, exercise and sleep and you know you’ve been cutting corners of each of them, you pretty much know what you need to do, don’t you?

If you focus on tweaking these pieces – you will find that the full pictures of the puzzle will improve as the days and weeks past.

So let’s look at the things you have control over.

Take a regular blood sugar test

Measure your waist regularly

Give up caffeine

Give up alcohol

Food – what do you eat matters. What quantities you eat matters.

Listen to your body.

It gives out signals of comfort or discomfort after you have eaten something.

If your stomach is bloated it wasn’t the right combination of food.

There are many dieticians who can help. I can certainly recommend one.

How many of you would agree with Dr. Gottfried who is saying:

“Take calorie restriction: it prolongs life, but who wants to live like that? I’d like to grow younger still, but in a fun playful way”

Now, here is an interesting discovery for women.

Dr. Gottfried found out that women with “high perceived stress” were aging faster in relation to their peer mates.

What does it look like?

Let me give you a couple of examples: you are a woman who has a flourishing career, is married, has 2 kids and although it may not seem stressful but YOU feel incredibly stressed.

How many of you can relate to that?

Or you are a student, you could be a mature student, the age doesn’t really matter here.

You are drinking coffee or the other nasty caffeinated drinks (redbull etc.) to stay up at night to learn or revise for exams, very little or no good sleep – tossing and turning… You can picture it, right?

Does it ring a bell?

So because such way of living is happening day in and day out, your wellbeing is suffering. Gottfried found out that you may have a genetic weakness to coping with stress. So even if you exercise regularly and pay attention to what you eat and have well-balanced healthy diet, it’s not going to work for you as well as for someone else who doesn’t have a “gene fault”.

Is this an AHA – moment for you too?

Let’s look deeper into it.

So what does it mean on a day–to-day basis?

If you work a lot, you spend time commuting, you are most likely cutting down on sleep.

Due to the high stress you may have signs of pre-diatebes.

What Gottfried found out on herself was she even had telomeres associated with cancer, Alzheimer’s and many more horrific diseases.

So what is the cure? You might be asking.

Simple.

Change your lifestyle!

Here are the 9 simple steps how to look 10 years younger

  1. Work Less

What would be your ultimate way to make money.

If you don’t know, please go to my website and download the 16 Attributes of a Perfect Career.

It’s not about not working but making a living the smarter way these days.

  1. Sleep More

Dr. William Dement

(founder of the Sleep Research Centre at Stanford University, the world’s first sleep laboratory and part of the team which first identified the different stages of sleep),

says:

”Healthy sleep has been empirically proven to be the single most important determinant in predicting longevity, more important than diet, exercise, or heredity.”

A more detailed blog post and a webinar on this subject coming up soon).

  1. Meditate Each Day and Every Day

Most of us know the benefits of meditation, there are many classes, youtube videos, magazines articles you name it but do you do it regularly?

For me it’s like brushing my teeth twice a day so I meditate twice a day.

Once in the morning and then just before I go to bed.

Now I changed my evening meditation to a slightly different practice.

I came across Dr. Wayne Dyer and here is his advice.

  1. Eat More Veggies

5 a day are no longer enough.

Learn here why that is.

  1. What Type of Food

Depending on your type certain food will support your wellbeing, some food you can only eat in moderation and others you need to give a miss – such as eggs, red meat, beer and gluten.

Some people put on weight when eating meat so you’d be better off with fish.

For example the French diet. People born and bread in France are thriving on delicious wines and cheese but give it someone else from a completely different country where their ancestors didn’t have it, such diet would harm them.

Did you know that French people are far better at detoxing alcohol than the average Americans?

No size fits all – so it’s good to know what works for you and what’s better to avoid.

Ayurveda (a system of traditional Hindu medicine) is a great way to help you recognize which category you belong to.

I’m happy to recommend a specialist.

       6. Supplement

when you invest into supplements choose only wholefood ones please because the body can actually absorb it.

        7. Sit less

  1. Inactivity is bad for your heart.Take breaks every 30 minutes from your computer for just one to two minutes that’ll do.
  2. Breaking up sitting time engages your muscles and bones, and gives all our bodily functions a boost – a bit like revving a car’s engine,” says Professor Dunstan.

My personal tip

Drink regularly water when sitting in front of your computer. The nature will call your body to go to the toilet frequently enough.

And there is your regular a few minute movement break!

           8. Sauna

Deep sweat has many benefits. First of all, it helps increase circulation. The core body temperature begins to rise. The blood vessels then dilate, causing increased blood flow. For some it could help reduce muscle soreness and improve joint movement. Some say it helped them ease arthritic pain, flushing toxins out, it strengthens the immune system . What’s more, the heat promotes relaxation which usually has a positive effect on our overall well-being.

And lastly, it’s sociable.

           9. Be Sociable

enjoy life with people you love to be around, have a laugh.

Putting Things into Perspective

Gottfried says, “My motivation is not a fear death, it’s more a fear of missing out on a full life, as defined by time to be with my kids, husband for decades to come, time to be of service”.

Final tip

Enjoy your bottle of red but if you really want to have fun with your grandkids or great-grandkids reduce it to only two glasses per week.

My question to you:

how do you want to feel and look in 10, 15 20 or more years time? Do you want to look younger, have more energy and enjoy life?
