It’s the beginning of the year, just after Christmas, nearly everyone is recovering financially after the holidays
and when back at work you are told you are getting a pay cut! How would you feel?
I saw an article in the Times newspapers :
“TV presenter told she should be paid less for being a mother”
I thought there is a lot more women who either had to accept it or conform.
For these of you who hasn’t see the article, here is what it says:
“Countryfile presenter Julia Bradbury has revealed she was told she should be paid less
because of her commitments as a mother.
The television presenter, who has worked with the BBC and ITV, said she had been asked to accept a lower wage
by producers because she travels home from filming to visit her three young children.
She described the comments as “disappointing” and “a disheartening negotiation tactic”.
Speaking on BBC 5 Live the 46-year-old said that, whilst filming programmes away from home,
she tries to travel regularly to see her one-year-old twin daughters Xanthe and Zena and son Zephyrus, five.
“It does become harder leaving [my children] and when I do the walks series and we’re on the road for six weeks
I make it a rule that I have to be home every three days so that I can have a bath time and a breakfast with them.
Otherwise they forget who I am. “It has been put to me that because I have to go home to see my children that
I shouldn’t be financially compensated in the same way,” she said.
“Some producers hold it against you and say: ‘Ah well, in which case we’ll drop your fee because you’ve got to go home’
“I don’t believe men or women should be penalised for trying to strike the right life-work balance and on the whole
I would like to encourage all working environments to be supportive of home-life commitments.”
“There will be times when your children need you more than others and the workplace needs to reflect and understand that.”
How does is make you feel? Why we should accept that?
A child needs a mother to be around to build a bond not to be brought up by someone else!
So wouldn’t it more make sense to figure out a better solution to making money that respects the pressing need for us to create a decent work-life-balance in this day and age?
That’s why more and more people are waking up to developing a business that works around them.
